Balázs Weyer

Balázs Weyer is an ethnomusicologist and the director of Hangveto, a leading world music production company in Hungary and the broader region. He curates several festivals, including Budapest Ritmo, and is the creative mind behind "Creative Europe" projects such as "MOST", "UPBEAT", and "Polyglot". He represents the city of Veszprém within the UNESCO Cities of Music network and served as a WOMEX Samurai in 2014 and 2020, in addition to being a member of the World Music Charts Europe jury. His professional scope extends to music supervision for film and TV soundtracks, documentary filmmaking, and music journalism through radio shows and podcasts. He currently serves as the chairman of Music Hungary, the music industry association of his homeland, and acts as a consultant on cultural development projects for European Capitals of Culture and UNESCO Cities of Music. In the academic sphere, he is the founder and a faculty member of the "Music as Heritage" summer school at Central European University (CEU) and a lecturer in music history at ELTE’s songwriting department. He has contributed to fieldwork projects such as "Marimba in Guinea Bissau" and "Polyphony in Ukraine", and is a frequent speaker at international conferences on music and popular science.
